5 Reasons why pets follow you around

We love our pets! But do they have to follow us everywhere?!
Here are 5 reasons, from Pet Problems Solved, why pets follow you around.

Watch the video and read more below…

1. FOMO: Fear of missing out!

You might be eating and drop some pet snacks or leave something edible on the bench top! Best for pets to follow you everywhere!

2. Attention-seeking

Pets love our attention! And what better place to get it than in your bathroom! Perhaps your pet unravels the toilet roll, sleeps in the sink or drinks from the toilet bowl (not recommended!) but the most likely reason they follow you to the bathroom is that they have your undivided attention!

3. Pets love cuddles

Pets follow you to bed! Our cats and dogs love a snuggle, so they follow you on to your sofa or into your bed – for warmth, for comfort and for a cuddle! Even if that means there’s no room left in the bed for you!

4. Pets miss you

Obviously, our pets can’t follow us if we’re not there. But they can miss us and await our return. And when you get home, they can follow you around again! But be warned, pets who love too much may suffer from separation anxiety when left alone 🙁

5. Pets love us

Yes. that unconditional love that our pets give us is worth the hard work of caring for them, tripping over them as they follow us around. Not many humans show us such devotion! Our pets love us!

And, of course, we LOVE our pets and that means we will follow them to the ends of the earth – and back!

Pets follow you into the bathroom…

Not many owners talk about this but ask them and they’ll tell you, they never get to go to the bathroom alone! So, why the attraction for our pets?
Perhaps they accompany us to the toilet:

  • to drink from the shower or toilet bowl!
  • to check out the odours!
  • to get uninterrupted attention
  • to unravel the toilet roll!

Check out more reasons that your furry family member may join you in your bathroom. Some pets, however, may avoid the bathroom entirely as that is where they have to undergo the much-dreaded bath!

Pets follow you into the kitchen…

Pretty easy to explain why pets follow you into the kitchen – most pets know this is where the food is and their appearance may well prompt you into remembering to feed them – again!

Pets follow you into the bedroom…

Pets love our company and most will, if allowed, follow you into the bedroom, onto the bed and even under the covers in winter! Of course they can be taught to sleep on the floor by your bed but most will sneakily hop up onto the bed while you’re asleep!

Pets follow you up the street…

While all pets should be either kept safely in your home or garden or on a lead, some will accompany you as you walk along the street. When I was growing up, every dog walk was accompanied by my cat, Tony, walking through the neighbourhood with us!

Then there are those pets who wait

Some pets remain home while we leave but wait patiently, in the garden or at the window, on our return. Legends abound about the patience of dogs and cats awaiting their owners.
