Is your pet eating their pet greens?
We all know that greens are good for us! Are you also aware that our pets need their nutritious greens too? And most pets enjoy nibbling on them. A new business now delivers your pet greens right to your door and Pet Problems Solved chatted to Sales Manager of Pet Greens, Terrence Dodd.
- Tell us about your business
Pet Greens supplies farm fresh pet supplements of potted pet grass and potted catnip via online subscription delivered from the farm direct to customers. Pet Greens are great for cats, dogs, birds, lizards, rabbits and more.
- Why are pet greens important to animals?
Pet Greens are packed with vitamins, minerals and powerful antioxidants to supplement the existing diet of small indoor pets who don’t get to enjoy the outdoor life of their ancestors. As more and more Australians choose apartment living that they share with four legged friends, it’s important to bring some of the outdoors in.
For cats, especially those who live indoors, Pet Grass offers a form of environmental enrichment. It ‘brings the outdoors in’ and gives cats something to graze and nibble on at their leisure, encouraging natural behaviour. Pet Grass provides cats with insoluble fibre that can help with digestion and hair balls.
- What made you choose this as a business?
We always knew that pet greens were great for the health of pampered felines and other small animals and no one else was bringing them to the market in such a convenient way. Pet Greens is part of The Little Fresh Group, that offers local, sustainable and fresh foods to Australian households, so we already have the farms in place to produce potted greens. One of our clever staff came up with the original idea and our team has worked together to make it happen.
- Were you involved with pets before this?
As a business, this is our first foray into products for pets. But we’ve always loved pets and enjoy being able to share our products with other pet lovers. From the start, we involved celebrity vet Dr Katrina Warren who reinforced the benefits of pet greens.
- What has been the most difficult thing about your business?
The most challenging part has been setting up the logistics because no other part of our business operates in this way, but with a great team, we’ve been able to overcome any challenges this new business brought.
- What has surprised you about your business? About pet owners?
Pet owners are very passionate about their beloved companions. That didn’t really surprise us. Setting up the business really reinforced the idea that we already had about the extraordinary love people have for their pets.
- How do people order?
The Pet Greens catnip and Pet Grass are both live potted plants that are placed in specially designed packaging and delivered by courier direct to customers around Australia. Most people choose to purchase it via subscription, so they receive regular deliveries. It is also available as a one-off purchase.
- Have you had feedback from clients?
We’ve had lots of great feedback from customers and many have shared photos and videos of their pets with the product which we’ve been able to use on social channels.
Here’s an example of a story from a satisfied customer…..
“We received our regular delivery of Pet Greens and I brought the box to the kitchen table. My British Shorthair cat Isi, who had been missing for hours, came tearing through the house from some unknown hiding spot and slide into my legs in the kitchen. She immediately began sniffing and meowing at me. After putting the box on the floor and opening it for Isi, she immediately stuck her big head in the box and tried to pinch the pot of catnip that was nestled inside. She ended up dragging the entire box with the two pots of Pet Greens inside, around my entire house. I eventually found the box, and the pots and Isi hiding under my bed with a huge mess around her.”
About Pet Greens:
Pet grass contains chlorophyll, vitamins and proteins, all of which may be beneficial to the health of our precious pets. Catnip encourages play in some cats and cat be used as environmental enrichment. It also may have a calming effect for some cats which may help with anxiety.
Pet Greens are fresh, unprocessed and 100% gluten-free. While the concept of providing pet grass and catnip to pets is not new, in the past it relied on the owner to grow their own grasses or buy through retail where the product is not necessarily at it freshest.
Pet Greens products are cultivated under the Australian sun, and rainwater, 100% pesticide-free on farms across Australia. Find out more at www.petgreens.com.au.
