Moving home is one of the most stressful life events. These tips from Bobby Miller will help ease your mind and keep your pets safe…
What You Need (and Don’t Need) When Moving With Pets
Moving is a hectic time for anyone because you have to begin to plant your roots in a new direction which comes with changing one’s way of life immensely. It has also become a good time to minimize your belongings to get rid of what you don’t need. Now there are many great articles on general minimizations, but pet owners are often overlooked.
You can not only eliminate unneeded items, but you can also pave the way to help your pet(s) have a more comfortable life. Here are some tips on what you need and what you don’t need when moving with pets. Use this as a general foundation to make the move as successful as possible.
First things first, transportation safety is a must
This means making sure that if material equipment handling is to take place, you have pallets and boxes that your pet supplies are stored in. This isn’t always the case on every move, but it is something to keep in mind. As material equipment handling could damage or cause your pet belongings to come up missing if not packaged properly.
Also, how will you transport your pet(s)? Do you have pet carriers? You want to make sure that they are able to make it through the move safely. Don’t just throw them in the vehicle, protect them like you would protect your own child. You’d be surprised how many overlooked this.
Now that your pet(s) can travel safely, help them adjust
Think about how they will feel about the new place. Are there things of theirs that makes them happy and feel more comfortable? Bring them along.
The whole thing is that you want to think about the new place, and the steps that can be taken quickly to make it feel like home for your pet(s) as well as you. The last thing you want is to disappoint them by not providing the things they seek and have been used to for an extended amount of time.
Don’t forget they need a house too if they’re outside
This protects them from the elements as well as gives them their own place in times where they want to seclude themselves. It’s like their very own castle. Don’t leave the dog house behind, make sure you take it with you. You can also use it to store other things that belong to your pet(s) during the move.
Minimize what can be replaced rather affordably
Thinks like rawhide bones, pig ears, and worn-out plastic toys would be the things to leave behind to minimize how much stuff you have. They’re also cheap to replace and your animal(s) will be even happier to be given something new. Simple, yet effective is the name of the game here.
Now is when you put it all together, enjoy the new place!
Once you arrive, think about the overall layout. Take ideas off the internet and put them to use to enhance the life of your pet(s) even more. This is where you take a look at the overall plan and put it to use in order to make the move an upgrade rather than a downgrade.
