The Best Things to Feed Rabbits For Their Meals
A lot of us love animals of many species (dogs, cats, parrots, etc.), and we want to have one of our own. Now, many would say that both cats and dogs would be the most popular pet selection to go with. But there is a lot of people, including kids, who have taken a high interest in bunnies.
Rabbits are absolutely adorable; it’s so hard fighting the urge to bring one home with you every time you go to the pet store. Although once you do, having them around brings such a heartwarming feeling to the house. Just like humans, rabbits are going to need good food.
People often ask what bunnies eat for food. There are a few things that could work as food for bunnies. The common answer is carrots and lettuce, but they require a healthy balanced diet. A diet that should consist of hay, fruit, fresh veggies, and even a good amount of pellets.
Feeding your pet rabbit a healthy and balanced diet is vital when you want to keep them healthy. Not many people know this, but rabbits actually have a super sensitive digestive system. If you aren’t careful, it could lead to some serious intestinal problems which could have a fatal outcome. It’s going to be very important that you feed your rabbits properly so they can live a long healthy life.
Knowing how to feed them is crucial, because if you feed them too much then they could get sick or worse. You want to be careful when you are looking to transition from one diet food to another. The more you know about what they eat, the easier it will be to feed them.
Provide Rabbits with Fresh Hay
With fresh hay being good for them, it will make up a pretty big chunk of their diet. With younger rabbits, you should start with feeding them alfalfa, but not adult rabbits. When they reach their adult stage you can start feeding them a balanced combination of grass, oat, and Timothy hays. Hay actually supplies the rabbit with the essential fiber that’s needed to help their digestive system. You always want to look to choose hay for them that smell fresh. Hay can even be bought in bulk too.
Feed Rabbits Fruit as A Treat
As much as we would love to give bunnies a nice sugary sweet, we can’t. Fruit is an alternative to turn to but only when given in small amounts. Fruit is the best treat option for rabbits but remember only in small amounts simply because of the sugar content. If you consider organic fruit you will avoid pesticides, and you have to wash them before you give it to them to enjoy.
Don’t Forget The Pellets
Pellet can easily be purchased so they will always be fresh; you want to be sure that they are low in protein and high in fiber as well. Now as bunnies’ age you are going to have to limit the amount of pellets they intake. Because they are high in protein that can potentially lead to health issues including obesity. The last thing to remember about pellets is that they should always be served dry and never mixed with anything else either.
