Aussie Pets are Jet Set Pets: Do you travel with your pets?
I love to travel. I love to take my dog with me. My cats are less inclined to travel. Taking my dog on my travels does limit my destinations, however. Basically it means staying within Australia. No hardship to stay in my home country but, like my recent vacation to Florida and the Caribbean – visiting my son who is studying in the US – sometimes you just want to travel abroad. No Chilli dog 🙁
A recent survey by Australian owned pet specialty retailer PETStock has revealed that Aussie pets are jet set pets! PETstock’s Pet Parent Survey of over 700 Australians have revealed that the travel plans of Australian pet parents are heavily influenced by their dogs and cats: 75 per cent of dog owners choose travel destinations based on whether their dog could join them.
It seems that canines in particular dominate their owners’ travel itineraries. Pet parents have confessed that they’ve done the following:
- 75 per cent of dog owners either have or would consider choosing travel destinations based on whether their dog could come, with 16 per cent refusing to travel unless they could take their dog along.
- 20 per cent of cat owners either have or would consider choosing travel destinations based on whether their cat could come, with seven per cent refusing to travel unless they could take their cat.
- 41 per cent of dog owners confessed they travel less now that they own a dog, compared to 31 per cent of cat owners.
- 26 per cent of cat owners believe putting their cat in a cattery is a holiday for their cat as much as it is for them compared to 20 per cent of dog owners
I guess that I’m not surprised that our preference would be to holiday with our pets. Are you? Do you take your pet on holiday with you? Do you have jet set pets?

Holidays would not be wonderful without our Cavoodle. We only plan ‘doggie’ holidays. We definitely would jet set with our pet if we had the chance. Wouldn’t it be great!
