Pet emergencies! No pet owner wants them but just how do we deal with them. Talking Pets talks to people who help, those who have needed help and we also discover a little luxury for our pampered pussycats…
The last Talking Pets of 2016! Although we’ve not been broadcasting for too long, Talking Pets has certainly become part of my work, my life. This week, I was joined by Trevor Farrugia while David took a well-earned holiday.
This week we dealt with pet emergencies – those that happen in our Australian summer season. We also asked what was available in luxury care for our pets while we holiday and just what happened to the dog who went missing at the airport!
Here’s the rundown of individual segments:
This week’s Talking Pets show included:
Summertime pet emergencies
Sydney’s Small Animal Specialist Hospital (SASH) is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and they see all sorts of emergencies coming into their clinic. In addition to accidents, heat stroke and tick treatments, they also offer a whole range of specialist surgeons to help our all-important furry family members (and even birds, reptiles and spiders!). We spoke with Dr Andrew Marchevsky.

Diving luxury for your cat
When you need to board your pet, only the best will do for many pet owners. Divine Creatures offer 5 star accommodation for cats, including themed rooms and even a penthouse suite! Jules Dos Santos told us what makes cats happy.
Bushfire and other disaster preparation
In Aussie summertime bushfires are an emergency that many of us need to prepare for, with our pets. Vets Beyond Borders have a new program AVERT (Australian Veterinary Emergency Response Team), are teams of veterinary professionals from around Australia who have volunteered to help when an emergency, such as bushfires or other natural disasters, occur. If you are a vet or vet nurse, you can offer your support and other concerned pet owners can also offer help. We found out more from CEO Maryann Dalton.
