Our love of pets has enabled many small businesses to deliver goods and services to pet owners and pet lovers. One such business, Britt’s Pet and Animal Taxi has been transporting pets in NSW, Australia for over 20 years. I asked Britt to tell us more about her business…
What’s your business name? How long have you been running this?
Britt’s Pet and Animal Taxi. Established in 1995.
What prompted you to set up this business?
As a Kennel assistant I was quite often picking up pets to come into the kennels. I just saw a need in the market that needed filling.
Who is your typical passenger?
Most often I transport dogs either 1 2 or more per pet family but same applies to cats or cat families.
Who or what would be your most unusual passenger and/or request?
I still remember Dinah, a 70kg pig, who moved house. And the flock of geese I had to help catch! The latest of these odd jobs had me chasing down 7 ducks for transport and helping an elderly gent catch his beloved pigeons to rehome.
What has been the most difficult part of your business over the years?
Having to help owners with terminal pets of to the vets and off to rainbow bridge. The hardest of these was my 96 year customers last 16 year old Mixed breed dog, who I had handled for many of those years 🙁
And what have you enjoyed the most?
Being able to have a relationship with both pet and owner, from go to woe of their pet’s life, generation after generation in some cases. But just being able to relate to the animals I love.
What pets do you have?
Over my lifetime I have had a menagerie of pets currently I have dogs two of which I saw come into the world.
