Can Dogs Eat Fruit?

Fruit is chock-full of vitamins and nutrients, and not to mention, it’s delicious! But that healthy treat for you could turn out to be a dangerous snack for your dog. Some fruits are perfectly fine to share with our four-legged family members, but a few bites of the wrong fruit could land your pup in the hospital.
Which Fruits Are Safe? Find Out Here!
Not all dogs react the same way to all foods but the risks of eating the wrong fruit are too great to leave it to chance. To make sure that your pooch stays happy and healthy, check out this infographic to find out which fruits are safe and which should be avoided at all costs.
Here are a few possible consequences of your dog getting their paws on the wrong fruit…
Toxic Ingestion
Certain types of fruits like grapes, avocados, and cherries contain toxic ingredients that can cause fatal reactions in your dog. Symptoms of toxic ingestion vary depending on the toxin, but they can include: vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, loss of appetite, seizures, and the inability to urinate. Â
Obstruction
Many fruits contain seeds, pits, or tough skin, or they are made of a texture that is not easily digested. These fruits pose a risk of causing a gastrointestinal obstruction. Symptoms of gastrointestinal obstruction can include: vomiting, dehydration, diarrhea, weakness, and weight loss.
If you suspect your pup snuck a grape from your fruit parfait, go to the vet or an animal hospital immediately.
